Not so thankfully it began just a few days before my birthday - December 3 - and those who know about the effects of Mercury Retrograde know that the first few days are the most potent for screwing up communication and electronics. So far my laptop computer began acting up, my truck is once again showing error messages about the computerized braking system, and my trusty printer won't print more than four lines of text before lights begin blinking and it stops. It's also time for me to write and publish another newsletter. One of my passions is outdoor photography, and of all the thousands of photos I've taken throughout the years, this one remains my favorite. It's not so much the photo itself, although I do love the graceful form of the Blue Heron mirrored in the quiet stillness of the water. The real reason I love it so much is the story behind it. I was strolling through the forest in one of my favorite local parks, taking photos of this and that, when I decided to take a short trail down to the beach. To my delight I spotted the Blue Heron, silently standing still as a statue in the calm water. I stood and admired it for a bit before I remembered I had my camera with me and could take a photo of it. I brought the camera up, adjusted the focus, and snapped a few photos. As I previewed the photos I realized I needed a different lens, so I made the change to a long distance lens from the wide angle I had on the camera. Amazingly the Heron didn't move a feather during this entire time. Typically, they're very wary of humans and fly away if we get within a few hundred feet. I was much closer than that to this Heron. I quickly took a few shots with my long distance lens, and then put my camera down to simply enjoy looking at the graceful beauty of this bird. It was then that the magic happened. He slowly turned his head to look at me. After a moment or two, he then slowly bowed his head down in a very regal, graceful nod to me. And then he just as slowly and gracefully returned to his pose. Every time I look at this photo, I'm reminded of being honored with the graceful bow gifted me by that Heron. Omnidimensional
