Miracles All Around You
"The
whole world is a series of miracles, but we're so used to seeing
them that we call them ordinary things." Hans Christian Anderson
"Thank
you for the miracle of life that I am and thank you for all the
miracles of life I see reflected all about me." P'taah's Morning
Song.
Recently
I experienced some amazing miracles.
One
of them involved my fancy truck that is just loaded with
elecronic stuff... which seems to be the main cause of the only
problems I ever have with this vehicle.
I
had been grocery shopping and when all the goodies were loaded in
my truck, I turned on the ignition and then remembered something,
so quickly turned it off again. Then later I turned it on again.
On the drive home I happened to notice the dreaded Check Engine
Light was on.
I took the truck to the local (an hour drive from my home) dealer,
where I was told the problem was in some electronic system and could
cost up to $1000 to repair. Yikes! I drove home, depressed and anxious
about this bad news. The Check Engine Light had been turned off
by the mechanic and it was no longer annoyingly lit on the dash
as I drove home. (Once the Check Engine Light comes on, it doesn't
go off by itself but has to be turned off by a mechanic.)
Miraculously,
it has stayed off to this day. I believe that when I turned the
ignition on and then off quickly it didn't allow the sensor to fully
communicate with the truck's computer.
You
may judge that occurance to not be in the category of a miracle.
To me it's a major miracle.
Another
miracle that occured recently was finding a woman gynecologist in
my area. I'd been looking for months and had found only one and
she was soon to retire, so wasn't taking any new customers. I decided
to look one more time online and to my delight found a clinic in
a nearby town with seven gynecologists... all women!
Bingo!
Another miracle.
Now
you might not call them miracles. You might say they were just coincidences
or niceties or some such. I prefer to think of them as miracles.
These
experiences got me thinking about how often we judge things that
are amazingly wonderful as just normal, everyday ho-hum stuff.
The
truth is that miracles abound and exist all around us. Some are
jaw-dropping amazing and others are simply delightful. Miracles
are miracles, no matter what their size or impact. Here's a few
examples:
- Your
entire body has been renewed every seven years. Yep. Every cell
in your body has been replaced at least once during any seven
year period. Every cell.
- Trees
exhale oxygen that we breathe, and breathe in the carbon dioxide
that we exhale. (It takes 13 adult evergreen trees to create enough
oxygen for one person, so plant some trees!)
- The
frequency of a cat's purring is healing to the human body. It
especially resonates with bones.
- Nothing
is wasted in the natural world. The leaves, branches, and other
debris that falls from trees onto the ground rots and turns into
mulch. It then becomes food for the tree as well as for the bugs
and plants living around it.
- Hugging
another person releases the hormone oxytocin which reduces blood
pressure, boosts the immune system, and reduces stress.
If
you're ready to feel better emotionally, which will help you feel
better physcially, then begin to look around you and notice how
amazingly miraculous so many everyday things actually are.
We
truly live in a world filled with miracles.
Love,
Kathy
