Wisdom from the Cougar Mom

One of my passions is outdoor photography. There are many reasons why I love it...

  • It gives me a reason and the motivation to get off my butt and go outside to get some fresh air and exercise.
  • My spirit is uplifted when I'm enjoying the beauty of the forests, especially the huge evergreen trees all around me.
  • The sights, sounds, and smells of the woods are cleansing, not only to my physical body but also to my soul.
  • I have photographs to remind me afterward of special tidbits of the beauty I found in the woods.

One day during early spring I decided to drive up to the nearby Olympic Mountains, to a location that I knew had a beautiful little creek tumbling down the steep mountainside. There was still snow on the ground and I wanted to get some photos of the water falling and tumbling amidst the snow covered rocks and ferns.

When I arrived at the spot, I jumped out of my truck, armed with my camera, and began climbing upward, following the creek and taking lots of photos of its beauty. Suddenly I noticed that I was feeling a sense of dread or fear. "What can be causing this sense?" I asked myself. I looked around and could find nothing to be fearful of, so I continued my upward climb.

The further I climbed, the more intense the feeling became. Along with it came a sense, a knowing, that it was coming from a Cougar. "That's silly," I thought to myself. "Still, what if it really is Cougar energy. Maybe, just to be on the safe side, I should go back down to my truck."

By the time I returned to my truck I was thinking that the whole Cougar energy thing was ridiculous, so I walked up the road a bit to where I knew there was a wonderful overlook of the valley and mountains beyond. The road was covered in compacted snow and ice with a bit of loose snow on the edges of tire tracks from those who were more adventuresome than me and desired to drive further up the mountain in the snow.

I stood there, taking photos for a bit, then turned around to walk back to my truck. As I did so, I looked down to ensure I was stepping safely in the slippery snow and ice. There, not two feet behind me, were Cougar tracks! And they were very recent. It was a sunny day and the snow crystals that had been loosened by the big cat were in the warm sunlight, but had not melted one bit. They stopped right behind me and then turned and went back down the road and then up the mountainside.

All I could think of was "YIKES!. Now what do I do? Run or walk back to my truck. Better not run. If the Cougar is still watching me, running might encourage her to chase me. I'll walk. But I'll walk fast."

When I got back to my truck I jumped in, slammed the door shut, and locked it... just to make sure the Cougar couldn't get in, you see.

As I sat there, waiting for my hands to stop shaking so I could get the key in the ignition, a voice came to me. It was the Cougar. She let me know that she had kittens and was protecting them. After watching me she had determined I was no danger to her and her kits, so she blessed me with these words of Cougar Wisdom:

  • Walk the proud path. You have much to teach.
  • Be strong and cunning.
  • There is a time to frolic and play and a time to focus on life and working at living it best.
  • Be ever watchful and use your senses to know what is around you at all times. Always be wary and aware of your surroundings - who and what is around you.
  • Use your ability to sense energy and believe what you sense. Your body will not lie to you. Trust it.
  • Tread quietly and carefully when in places where unknown things can come at you. The unknown things especially include people.
  • Every hair on your body is an antenna that picks up the vibrations of energy from other people and places. Trust what you feel and act accordingly. No matter what. Do not second guess the messages you receive in this form of energy. Energy cannot lie.

I send you my love, little one.

Love,
Kathy

Now Available in Print!

For fourteen (wow!) years I've been writing the articles for this newsletter and gratefully sharing it with my readers. Recently I began to sense that it's time for me to gather the best of these articles into a print book so that my online newsletter readers might, at their leisure or whenever they feel the urge, access the knowledge and wisdom I've been given to share with them through the years.

So I revisited the dusty, crusty archives of my newsletters from circa 2006 to 2020 and selected the articles I think hold the most important and timeless wisdom. They're all collected in this one volume, which is now available in paperback on Amazon.com.

Here are a few samples of the articles:

  • Taking the Stress out of Decision Making
  • One Minute Retreats
  • Three Simple Steps to Inner Growth
  • Maxigoals, Minigoals, and Microgoals
  • Everyday Miracles
  • Stopping and Starting Your Brain
  • Creating Through the Chakras

You may wish to begin at the beginning of the book and enjoy reading the articles all the way through to the end. Or you may chose to use it as an oracle. To do so, simply focus on an issue and then open to a random page. Both methods offer renewed and sometimes brand new insights to inspire and support you in your journey this lifetime.

Online Classes

A few years ago, my Spirit Guides nudged me (actually, kicked me in the butt was more like it) in a new direction. They "encouraged" me to transform the in-person classes I was teaching into online classes. In doing so, I discovered that there are many benefits for students to take online classes:

  • You have the freedom of being able to take the classes when and where you want! Can't you just see yourself cozied up with your laptop or iPad on the sofa, the music of your choice playing in the background, your favorite tea or coffee close at hand... and you're totally comfy in your sweats or jammies! Or maybe you're at the beach enjoying the sun, the view, and your online class! How can it get any better?!?
  • The price is less than the in-person classes because I have no overhead - no room rental, travel costs, etc.
  • The total cost of the class is less for you because you have no travel costs. What with high gas prices, new "security" measures at airports, and tightened budgets because of the current economy, getting to a class is a major issue.
  • Finding time in your busy schedule to attend a class you want isn't an issue. You take these online classes when YOU want, when it's convenient for you.

Select from these intriguing subjects:

  • Getting in the Swing with Pendulums
  • Manifesting Through the Chakras
  • Magical Mystical Classes
  • How to read the Tarot Intuitively
  • An Inner Journey: Living Your Life Purpose
  • Overcoming the Winter Blahs
