Wisdom from the Critters

Years ago when I lived in another area of the Pacific Northwest I had a very illuminating experience with some ducks.

I was driving down the road from my house when three Mallard ducks flew directly over my truck and down the road in front of me. It was a very surprising experience since ducks usually fly quite high in areas where humans live.

Having recently attended a seminar given by Ted Andrews, world-renowned interpreter of animal messages, I immediately began wondering if this was, indeed, a message from these birds and if so, what did it mean?

As Ted teaches, the behavior of the animals that are bringing you a message is the first item to consider. In this case, my first thought was that these ducks were in the wrong place. They should have been in the lake next to the road on which I was driving.

AHA! Those ducks were out of water! And the message they were sharing with me was that I, too, was out of my element. I had recently become more and more aware of the fact that the people in this location in which I was currently living were not compatible with me. My lifestyle, my beliefs, my work, and the people I chose to connect with were all spiritual and metaphysical. None of the people I had met in this particular area had any interest in those areas. In fact, they were scornful toward me and my chosen lifestyle.

Shortly after this encounter and the resultant wisdom I received, we moved to an area in which the residents were much more agreeable with our lifestyle and beliefs.

That memory was brought to my awareness this morning as I realized that I had just been given not one, but three messages by critters.

• The first messengers I saw were two bees that were hanging on the exterior of the window frame as I raised the blind. They were very still as if they were not quite ready to move into action. It was as if they needed to rest before once again flying over to the lavender plants for nectar.
• The second one was a HUGE black spider in my Crystal Room. It was high up on the wall, right next to the ceiling.
• The third one was a dove that flew into the dining room window. Unlike the usual loud bang when one of them hits that window, this one was a soft thud, as if it just barely touched the window.

Each one of these messengers was sharing with me a similar tidbit of wisdom

• The two bees were telling me to rest, relax, and contemplate before moving into action. I'd been thinking about jumping into working some more on the newest book that I've begun writing. Instead, they were telling me to relax about writing. Their message was for me to wait until I felt mentally and emotionally energized about doing some more writing on my book, instead of forcing myself to write.
• I caught the spider on the tip of a broom and took it outside to release it. When it fell on the sidewalk, it turned and began to crawl back toward the house. Every time I would nudge it to move away from the house, it would turn around toward the house. I interpreted its message to mean that I should stop and think a bit about the direction in which my writing was going. It's time for some new and refreshing viewpoints.
• The message of the bird gently hitting the window was a warning for me to pay attention to the direction in which I'm moving with my story. Just as the reflection on the window glass wasn't truly a tree but instead was merely the reflection of a tree in the back yard, all is not what it appears to be regarding the story that I'm wring. It's for me to reflect on what I'm writing so I know that the true message I want to share with my readers is clearly coming through.

As you meander through your day, I invite you to begin noticing the encounters you are having with critters and what messages they may have for you. You may be delightfully surprised at the wisdom they so willingly share.
