Anger: The Greatest Motivator of All

When you experience the emotion of anger, you create one of the most extremely powerful energies that we humans have been given. Although powerful, the energy of anger isn't bad or good. It simply exists as energy. And as with any energy, you can choose to use anger energy in harmful ways or in beneficial ways. It's how you choose to use it that determines if it's bad or good.

Fire, for example, is an energy that we can create. Once created, some of its beneficial uses may be to heat your home, cook your meals, or toast your marshmallows for your S'mores. That same energy can be used in harmful ways, such as in cases of malicious arson. Like anger, fire is simply a form of energy. What determines if it's good or bad, harmful or beneficial, is how you choose to use it.

An important fact about energy is that it's perpetual. Once created it cannot be destroyed. It can, however, be transformed. The transformation process of energy occurs as it is being used. Whether it will transform into a beneficial or a harmful energy depends on the use chosen.

So, once you have created the energy of anger, you have choices about how you are going to use this energy.

You can stifle your anger, stuff it inside of you. But remember, the energy you've created is perpetual. It won't go away simply because you're keeping it inside of you. What it will do is lodge itself somewhere in your body and create disease. The common question, "What's eating you?" is indicative of the anger stored in the person in question and represents the fact that it's eating away at their internal parts. High blood pressure, ulcers, colitis, and other digestive diseases are common in people who keep their anger stuffed inside of themselves.

You can use your anger to create more anger by sharing it with others. When you give voice to your anger, such as telling everyone you know the story of what that so-and-so did to you, you share not only your words, you share the energy of your anger. This is not to say that talking about the incident is wrong. Talking with someone who can assist you in discovering a solution to the incident will help you transform the energy of anger into a beneficial energy of positive action. Using the energy of anger for simply complaining, however, grows the energy.

You can vent your anger with hard physical activity. This transforms the energy of anger to physical energy, which is beneficial energy. Aside from building muscles and oxygenating your body, hard physical activity makes you sweat. Sweating is the only way your body can rid itself of the toxins created by stress which are created when you feel anger.

You can use the energy of your anger to motivate yourself into creating a better situation. THIS is the highest purpose for this energy. THIS is why we were given the emotion of anger. Anger is the greatest motivator of all. You have the opportunity to use this powerful energy to create something better out of the situation that created it in the first place.

An example of using the energy of anger for motivation to improve a situation might be a woman who is experiencing difficulties at work with one of her co-workers who undermines her and belittles her. She can choose to use her anger as a motivation to look more closely at exactly what it is that she is getting angry about. As a result of this process, she may discover how she has been in victim stance and has been giving her power away to the co-worker and others. She might then choose to set personal boundaries that will garner her the respect she desires. As a result of transforming her anger into the highest form for which it was intended - as motivation to correct that which caused the anger - she will empower herself and will begin to enjoy a higher quality of life.

Look deeply into a situation that angers you. How might you transform your anger energy into motivation that will aid you in discovering ways to change the situation into one in which all would benefit? How can you use this powerful energy for the highest and best purpose for all concerned?

Love,
Kathy

I subscribe to several newsletters sent out by people who share their wisdom and knowledge in order to help us live better lives. Some of them I've followed for more years than I can remember. A few have compiled their chosen favorite messages into books, which I have and re-read from time to time whenever I feel the nudge to do so. Always when I do so, I find the wisdom and knowledge within these books to be very timely and helpful for whatever is going on in my life at the time.

Sometimes I begin at the beginning of the book and read all the way through to the end. Other times I use it as an oracle and, while I focus on an issue, open to a random page. Both methods offer me renewed and sometimes new insights to inspire and support me in my lifewalk.

For thirteen (wow!) years I've been writing the articles for this newsletter and gratefully sharing it with my readers. Now I sense that it's time for me to gather the best of these articles into a print book so that my online newsletter readers might, at their leisure and whenever they feel the urge, access the knowledge and wisdom I've been given to share with them through the years.

So I've been revisiting the dusty, crusty archives of my newsletters from circa 2006 to 2015, selecting the articles I think hold the best and most timeless wisdom. I'm in the last stages of editing and cleaning up any nits in the first book of collected articles from The Journal of Spirited Coaching, and will be publishing the collection, in print, soon on Amazon.com.

Stay tuned....
